Engineering & Design

Our engineering team is ready to assist you with over 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of injection molded components.

Our comprehensive New Product Development Process assures that Customer goals and parameters are understood and addressed on all new projects.  The subsequent Production Part Approval Process provides a roadmap for the qualification of each tool, and the rigorous development of each manufacturing process, assuring results that will exceed your expectations throughout the product life cycle.

Application Engineering

At Moraine Plastics we believe that attention to detail in the formative stages of a new project sets the stage for a successful outcome.  Our engineers will analyze your preliminary product designs to identify potential causes of warp, sinks, voids and other common molding defects, and recommend strategies to avoid such problems.  Knit lines, shorts, air entrapment, ejector/gate marks and other mold-related attributes are also predictable.

Solid Modeling

A fully detailed solid part model is the foundation, and a virtual necessity, for each new product/tooling project.  Using Solidworks CAD platform, Moraine Plastics can provide assistance in the creation and development of solid models that embody all aspects of the desired part such as drafts, fillets, radii and shutoff angles, and drive other technologies that facilitate mold building.

Focus on Productivity

In manufacturing, productivity improvements serve the best interests of all stakeholders… especially the customer.  Opportunities to boost productivity can usually be identified early in the product realization process.  Our team will recommend measures to reduce cycle times, improve dimensional stability, and increase tool life, and can conduct process simulations (filling, warp and/or stress analysis) to study the impact of alternative part and tool designs.

Prototyping

Frequently, our engineers will recommend that prototypes be made to develop answers to questions involving product attributes or process viability.  Such prototypes are usually produced using rapid prototyping or rapid tooling technologies.  Moraine Plastics can provide these services within our own tooling/prototyping shop, or through our established vendor partners.
